The downside, however, is that our bodies need some impurities (namely electrolytes) to absorb and utilize the water. If someone were to drink nothing but distilled water, they may feel better at first as it flushes out impurities, but afterward it was start causing serious damage to their cells.

When distilled water is added to the system, it displaces the balance of the system. (for example, our cells float in a saltwater solution. Distilled water dilutes the salt/water ratio.) This is called a hypotonic solution. Our cells will then, trying to maintain homeostasis, attempt to absorb the excess water to get the ratio back to normal. If this continues, the cell membrane will not be able to keep in all the water (the cells will NOT stop absorbing water until it balances, mind you) and the cell membrane will burst. Those cells die.

However, if you INSIST on drinking distilled water, do yourself a little favor. Go to the store (a health store would be best) and get yourself some sea salt. It has to be sea salt, not regular salt, because sea salt has a wide variety of electrolytes your body needs, table salt (Sodium Chloride) included.
